Burger King, Maple Ave. in Zanesville, Ohio

 Burger King is closing, I think tomorow for a remodeling job.  It seems that this building has been there for over 40 years.  It has gone through a couple of renovations, but this time they are plowing it to the ground.  Of course in Zanesville we had Tasty Burger that used to be downtown, Burger Chef on Maple Ave., McDonalds on Maple Ave and Burger King on Maple Ave. These were the early burger places.  Originally, people seemed to flock to Burger Chef more than McDonalds.  The original Burger Chef rhyme was " Fifteen cents, a nickle and a dime, at Burger Chef you eat better every time, a nickel and a dime will get, french fried potatoes, big thick shakes and the best 15 cent hamburer you ever ate."  Aren't you all proud of me for remembering this?

Aldi's Grapes Zanesville

Aldis has red and green grapes on this weeks special for $1.50 for a 2 lb box.  They look fairly fresh, but I will need to go back and get some tomorrow.  They say they were grown in USA.  I love to take green grapes and freeze them and eat them for snacks just like popsicles.  Too many grapes do not agree with me as I find them too sweet, but I do like a few occasionally.  Also, Aldi's has some Granny Smith Apples for about $2 a bag.  Granny Smith Apples seem to always be so expensive.  I think the bag was a 3 lb bag but can't remember.

Avoiding Maple Like the Plague

Maple Avenue has been under construction for many days now and the traffic is routinely backed up for a mile or two during many parts of the day.  If possible try to find alternate routes.

I guess they are trying to make Maple a safer place and are eliminating many of the left turns, closing off some entrances and exits from businesses and the like.

Maple certainly has been in need of some kind of a plan for a long time.  I just wish that there weren't so mnay semis going up and down. 

Rite Aid on Maple Ave. in Zanesville, Sale Expires 26th

I just found out about a really neat sale at Rite Aid.  It has been going on for some time and the sale expires on the 26th of Sept.  There are so many sales, rebates and twists and turns in their sale flier that it would take too long to describe them here.  One for example is buying 10 $1 shampoos and getting a $5 rebate.  It is really worth it.  The fliers that explain the details are inside the front doors.  They have free gifts that go with some of the purchases and chances to enter contests.  Too bad I did not see it earlier.  Tip:  It would pay to know your prices on lots of items, (is it cheaper somewhere else without a rebate?)  can check it out also at www.riteaid.com

Bananas

Pick & Save on Underwood Street in Zanesville has bananas @ 2lbs for 44 cents per pound and they are Dole brand.  Aldi's on Maple Ave. has them for 39 cents per pound but I don't think they are dole brand.  I don't know exactlly what they are?

I don't like bananas real green, however I don't like them overly ripe either.  Just in the middle is good for me.  I use them mainly in smoothies, or just eat them like they are.  I don't see too many bananas anymore for less than 49 or 59 cents per pound.  I guess one could stock up on bananas at the sale price if they could get some fairly green ones.

Pizza & a Haircut Deal - Zanesville

How can you beat a lunch buffet deal from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm weekdays & Sun. Noon to 1:30 like this at Pizza Hut on Maple Ave in Zanesville.  The lunch buffet is $5.49 for all the salad, pasta, breadsticks and pizza you can eat.  Also, if you go sometime soon, they have place mats on the table with coupons on them.  I like the one for a Great Clips haircut for $6.99 that does not expire until Oct. 31, 09.  They usually charge $11 for a cut so that is another savings of $4 for me because I usually get my hair cut here anyway.  (Suggestion, bypass the drinks as they are $1.79 and just drink water to get the most for your money)

How to Preserve Fresh Tomatoes Without Canning

I don't like to fidget with food, so I don't remove the skins from the tomatoes.  Just chop them up, whiz them in the blender. Add a little citric acid if desired to keep fresher longer, but not too much as this will cause bitterness. Freeze in ice cube trays.  Remove when frozen and place into freezer bags.  These tomato cubes can later be added to soups, stews, smoothies, juice drinks and the like.   A tomato cube can be added into a fruit drink and it won't even be detectable to taste.

  

Cheap Apple Prices in Zanesville

How could anyone beat the price of $1.28 for a 3 lb bag of Ohio grown apples unless they had their own apple orchard?  Pick n Save in Zanesville wins my vote for sale of the week.  I bought 25 bags of these apples.  They store fairly well right in their bags.  Place them in a cool, dark spot and some of them (Not McIntosh, though) will last until January or longer.  They make great pies, apple butter, dried apples, apple dolls, whatever one might fancy.

Annies (TM) - Manager's Special On Closeout Table

On Sunday Sept. 13, Kroger's on Maple Ave. in Zanesville, Ohio  had these boxes of Annies (TM) Macaroni at 50 cents per box and I got 6 of them.
