Well, the Muskingum County area has been nothing but a flurry of activitiy the past few weeks. Octoberfests, Melon Festivals, Flea Markets, Boating, Power Outages from Hurricane Ike, what a time!!
I was out on the Pontoon Boat on Buckeye Lake ( Buckeye Lake State Park ) when Ike was brewing up. The storm liked to have took us away. What a thriller. I loved the wind. It was awesome, if only it had not caused so much havoc. We had over 60 mile an hour winds here, tree, power line, roof, car damages, boats smashed and much more. Thousands without power in many parts of the county and the state of Ohio, most of which are back on now.
My friend lives In Houston and she says you just cannot fathom the damage. 4.5 million without power, Ike at 600 miles wide was the size of Indiana and Ohio combined. Now, that's a monster! No one had gasoline, water, food, everything was shut down. She said they will be lucky to insurance adjusters in the next month or more. Galveston is pretty much a goner.
Who said preparing for y2k was crazy. Y2k is an everyday occurence anymore and it would be prudent to have a little place to get off the grid somehow. Someway that one could live for a couple of months without electric if they had to.
The financial crisis is piled on top of everything else. Of course we are being smoothed over and lulled to sleep being told it will be all right. But, FEMA has not done much for the Houstonians who need to drink and eat. Did anyone see FEMA in Muskingum County yet? They are not equipped to handle massive wide-spread situations it seems. I am not necessarily insulting them, I just think that financially and practically we may need to take more responsibility for ourselves.
