I thought this little eclectic shop down from our motel on the Beach road, highway 12, was so cute. I would love to have a shop just like it. The super shopping malls and stores are crowding out these little unique shops on many of the popular beach destinations anymore.
Kiteboarding is quite a sport on the outerbanks. With the ocean on one side and the bay on the other and with the wind, the conditions are perfect. These guys get going, get the wind behind the kite and take off in their little surf boards and take flight. They perform all kinds of acrobatics once up in the air. This photo is kind of distant but maybe get a better view by double clicking on photo.
I love these Tropical Smoothie Cafes. They have several of them in the outerbanks. They serve deli type sandwiches, soups, breakfast items, and of course smoothies. How can one resist, the perfect match to hot weather and the tropics?
This place was only a couple of blocks from our motel. It occupies some prime property on the beach front on Hwy 12 Beach Road. By double clicking on the photo you can see the Condos and rental properties that are closer to the beach. I wonder if this little place will eventually sell out and succumb to progress?
There is a whole process to growing a pineapple. I am going to try to grow one in a pot. I guess you cut off the top 1/3 of the pineapple leaving the leaves intact of course. Then you let it dry out for a few days and then plant the top well down into the soil in the pot. Water and away we go. I don't know how long it takes one to grow or how big they get in the pot.
Bicycles and Motorcycles are a great way to see the islands. Highway 12, the beach road, has a speed limit of 35 mph and is a great place for cruising and taking in the sights. There is not much passing on this road and it goes a long ways and seems to be a fairly safe place for casual riding.
The water was pretty cold this June, but very pretty. Oceans are always so invigorating to walk along. There are a lot of jelly fish that wash up along these shoes, so shoes are definitely advised.
I was just barely able to get a photo of this church as we passed by on Highway 158 close to Nags Head. The church is very long and is shaped to look like Noah's Ark. Cool church! The Belly of the Whale! The Gospel Ship! The Good Ship Zion! An Anchor from the Storm! The Pilgrims Landed in America!
